Details & Features

When your hay ground has grown past what a smaller mower can handle efficiently, but you're not ready to step up to a full commercial cutting rig, the NOVADISC 262 hits a useful middle ground. At 8.6 ft (2.62 m) working width, it covers meaningfully more ground per pass than the 222 while staying manageable behind a mid-range tractor — and it brings the same ground-following suspension that makes the NOVADISC series worth considering in the first place.

Pacific Northwest pastures don't come flat. The 262's side pivot suspension with weight alleviation springs lets the cutter bar float independently over rises, ruts, and uneven contours without you having to constantly manage it from the seat. The result is a consistent cut across the whole working width, not just down the middle where the ground happens to be level.

Six mower discs and 12 blades work across that 8.6 ft pass at 540 RPM, covering 2.6 hectares per hour. For a property where mowing days are limited by weather — and in this region, they often are — getting more done per hour without jumping to a much larger tractor is a real advantage. Minimum power requirement is 50 HP, which puts it within reach of a solid mid-size compact or utility tractor.

A mechanical breakaway device trips automatically when the cutter bar contacts a hidden obstacle — a rock, a stump, a fence post you didn't see until it was too late. On properties with rough history or mixed terrain, that protection pays for itself the first time it does its job. Cutter bar repairs aren't a small bill.

The TRI DRIVE drivetrain distributes load across the cutter bar to reduce wear and keep the machine running smoothly over time. Pöttinger builds these mowers to work hard for years, not just look good in the first season — the powder-coated finish holds up in the field through whatever the Pacific Northwest throws at it.

The 262 gives you real options on swath width. Without swath discs you're laying a 1.7 m windrow — good spread for faster wilting in the field. Add one pair of swath discs and that tightens to 1.5 m, or two pairs brings it down to 1.1 m for a narrow, concentrated windrow that's easier for smaller pickup equipment to handle cleanly. That kind of flexibility matters when conditions change from one cutting to the next.

Vertical transport folding keeps the transport height at 2.9 m — something worth checking against your gate heights and any overhead clearance on your property before you buy.

Ideal For:

  • Mid-size hay operations looking to cover more ground without a major tractor upgrade
  • Properties where weather windows are short and efficiency per hour counts
  • Operators running tractors in the 50–70 HP range
  • Rolling or uneven terrain where cutter bar float makes a real difference
  • Situations requiring flexible swath width options for varying conditions
